There are so many different designs, shapes and sizes to choose from. However, not all cakes can be tiered. If you want a tiered wedding cake it's best to choose either a fruit cake, carrot cake or a mud cake as they are more solid and can take the weight of other cakes on top.
Sponge cake on the other hand is best left as a single tier. Sponge is very soft and will fall apart with the extra weight. Your wedding cake bakery will more than likely inform you of this if you ask to have sponge cake as your wedding cake.
